Bethlehem Methodist Church Cemetery

Bethlehem Cemetery began as the burying ground for Timber Ridge Meeting House in the last quarter of the 18th century.  By 1815, our Methodist predecessors had purchased the property. The earliest documented burials in our hallowed cemetery are those of:

  • Adam Black (b. 1736; d. 1789) and

  • Daniel B. Black (b. ?; d. 1789)

There are over 925 documented burials at Bethlehem Methodist Church Cemetery; unfortunately, there are many scores that are unmarked and undocumented.

Our cemetery is a parcel of approximately two acres, and it lies on the south side of our historic church edifice.  A mausoleum was added in the early 1970s, and a columbarium was added in 2021.

The burial rows run north to south, and there are 3 sections in the cemetery—sections 1, 2, and 3.  Section 1, the oldest and largest, is in the center of the parcel and has rows A - S; section 2 is west of section 1 and has rows A - E; section 3 is east of section 1 (closet to the mausoleum) and has rows A – D. The oldest areas of the cemetery (south end) do not conform to the section-row system. Square, granite, in-ground markers that delineate the letter for a row can be found on the north end of each row near the parking lot.
